Des hélicoptères britanniques et norvégiens évacuaient dimanche matin le personnel de la plate-forme pétrolière Thistle Alpha touchée par un incendie en mer du Nord au large des îles Shetland, selon le ministère de la Défense britannique.
La plate-forme est opérée par la société suédoise Lundin Petroleum, spécialiste internationale d’exploration et production pétrolière.
« Il y a un incendie sur une plate-forme pétrolière en mer du Nord (…) 44 employés ont été hélitreuillés par les Norvégiens », a déclaré un porte-parole du ministère précisant qu’aucun mort ou blessé ou n’avait été signalé à ce stade.
Sept hélicoptères britanniques et norvégiens sont mobilisés pour évacuer les 159 employés présent sur la plate-forme, a-t-il précisé.

Thistle Field
The Thistle oil field is located in the south eastern portion of Block 211/18a and marginally in Block 211/19a, in the UK Sector of Northern North Sea (Figure 4). Thistle was discovered in 1973 by Well 211/18-2, which encountered under saturated oil in good quality Middle Jurassic Brent Group sandstones at around 9000 feet TVDSS.
A 60-slot, single steel jacket platform was installed in 1976 and oil production began in February 1978.
A long term investment programme to redevelop the Thistle field commenced in the first half of 2007. The redevelopment involves the reinstallation of the Thistle drilling rig. A seismic vessel to acquire new 3D seismic over the field has been contracted and is due to start acquisition in September 2007. Further facilities investment to ensure an extended life for the Thistle platform is ongoing.
The Deveron field is a separate small accumulation, lying some 3 km to the west of Thistle in Block 211/18a. Production is via three wells drilled from the Thistle platform. The field commenced production in September 1984 and has been in decline since 1987.
Oil export was initially via a SALM (Single Anchor Leg Mooring) loading system, however, since December 1978, oil has been exported through the Brent pipeline system to Sullom Voe via Dunlin and Cormorant South.
