    It will be a big problem for international oil companies if other countries follow Iraq and dare start demanding better returns from their reserves serviced by the majors, moans Mr de Margerie in an interview with Petroleum Intelligence Weekly on Friday.
    Mr de Margerie has said that oil at $70 a barrel makes some projects too expensive.
    When Iraq decided to auction off contracts to operate its fields, the oil majors were shocked to find that instead of the usual $4 per barrel they wanted for their trouble, Iraq was only prepared to pay $2.
