Alors que la crise chypriote menaçait de faire chuter grandement le prix du baril … risquant ainsi de réduire fortement le montant de la manne pétrolière engrangée par les pays producteurs, le ministre saoudien du Pétrole, Ali al-Nouaïmi aura – simple hasard de calendrier ? – eu un discours propice à la montée des cours.
S’exprimant lundi devant des journalistes, ce dernier a en effet laissé entendre qu’un baril de brut à 100 dollars était raisonnable, confirmant ainsi la volonté saoudienne de fixer le niveau de prix cible du pays – par ailleurs premier pays exportateur mondial de pétrole – à un tel niveau.
Un discours tombant à pic … alors que le plan de sauvetage de Chypre était encore il y a quelques heures sur la sellette, les analystes précisant en effet que l’Arabie saoudite ne devrait apporter de barils supplémentaires sur le marché tant que ce seuil ne serait pas atteint. Une manière comme une autre de limiter l’offre … et de soutenir les prix du WTI (baril de light sweet crude).
