Le directeur général du Fonds monétaire international, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, a indiqué vendredi qu’il envisageait la création à long terme d’un nouvel actif de réserve mondial, différent des Droits de tirage spéciaux.
Rappelons que la valeur des DTS, l’unité de compte du FMI , est déterminée chaque jour par un panier composé des quatre grandes monnaies de réserve internationales (dollar, euro, yen, livre).
Une annonce qui intervient alors que Dominique Strauss-Kahn a annoncé mercredi son intention de nommer comme « conseiller spécial » le vice-président de la banque centrale chinoise , Zhu Min .
A la mi-janvier, le directeur général du Fonds monétaire international avait affirmé à Washington qu’il n’était pas impossible à long terme d’avoir un système monétaire international où le dollar domine moins. De multiples devises de réserve pouvant parallèlement voir le jour.
Des propos qui pouvaient être loin d’être totalement innocents et dont le but premier pourrait être de lancer un pavé dans la mare … voire de mettre en garde les Etats-Unis.
