Les autres marchés européens sont eux aussi à la peine, Londres perdant 0,53% et Francfort 0,43% tandis que l’Eurostoxx 50 reculait de 1,26%.

Washington (awp/afp) – Le budget des Etats-Unis a affiché en août un déficit en nette hausse sur un an sous l’effet d’une augmentation des dépenses de santé et de retraites, a indiqué mardi le Trésor américain.
Le déficit lors du onzième mois de l’exercice budgétaire 2016, qui commence en octobre, s’est élevé à 107 milliards de dollars en données brutes, en augmentation de 66% par rapport à août 2015.
En données ajustées des variations calendaires, le recul du déficit en août est toutefois bien plus limité (-11%), a indiqué le Trésor. Ce repli s’explique surtout par un progrès des versements au titre du système d’assurance maladie pour les plus âgés (Medicare) et au titre des retraites.
Sans échéances d’impôts, le mois d’août a toujours été un mois déficitaire au cours des 62 dernières années d’exercice budgétaire, a précisé un expert du Trésor.
En données brutes, les recettes ont gonflé de 10% à 231 milliards de dollars tandis que les dépenses ont augmenté davantage, de 23%, à 338 milliards de dollars.
Sur les onze premiers mois de l’exercice, le déficit budgétaire américain est en progression de 17% à 621 milliards de dollars.
Pour l’ensemble de l’exercice 2016, le déficit budgétaire des Etats-Unis devrait atteindre 590 milliards de dollars, selon les récentes projections du Bureau du Budget du Congrès (CBO), qui datent du mois d’août et ont été révisées en hausse par rapport à celles de mars.
