Alors que FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) a signé récemment un accord pour fournir des véhicules sans pilote pour la flotte de test du géant internet d’Alphabet (maison mère de Google), le constructeur discuterait désormais d’un partenariat similaire avec Uber. Selon des sources proches du dossier joinets par l’AFP, l’accord pourrait être annoncé d’ici à la fin de l’année.
Les discussions seraient à « un stade très préliminaire » et non exclusives tandis qu’Uber aurait de son côté des conversations avec plusieurs autres constructeurs automobiles. Le cas échéant, ce ne serait pas le premier partenariat entre FAC et Uber puisqu’en septembre 2015, l’entreprise de VTC qui provoque l’ire des taxis a pris d’assaut certaines rues de New York avec une flottille de Dodge « Stormtrooper » dans le cadre d’un événement organisé par Mattel.
Bloomberg laisse entendre de son côté que FCA mène des discussions avec Uber tout en ayant eu parallèlement des contacts avec Amazon en vue de mettre en place des services d’utilitaires sans chauffeur qui seraient utilisés pour des livraisons.
Contactés par l’AFP, des porte-parole de FCA et Uber n’ont pas souhaité commenter l’information. De son côté, Amazon n’a pas réagi dans l’immédiat.
Le 3 mai dernier, FCA avait annoncé qu’il allait fournir une centaine de véhicules à Alphabet afin de lui permettre d’approfondir ses tests de voitures autonomes sans chauffeur. FCA va concevoir spécialement pour Alphabet une version adaptée du monospace Chrysler Pacifica intégrant les technologies de conduite autonome. Dans la foulée, le patron de Fiat Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne, avait souligné qu’il était ouvert à d’autres partenariats, y compris avec Apple.
Les alliances se multiplient donc dans le domaine, alors que le 24 mai, Toyota a annoncé un partenariat stratégique et financier avec Uber incluant les véhicules sans chauffeur mais également le covoiturage. Volkswagen a quant à lui choisi de s’allier à Gett, via un investissement de 300 millions de dollars, tandis que General Motors a investi en début d’année dans Lyft.
