Et nous continuerons de le faire à la demande des compagnies », a précisé M. Bush en Louisane où il s’était rendu après le passage de l’ouragan Gustav.
Le département américain à l’Energie a annoncé mardi que les Etats-Unis allaient puiser 250.000 barils de pétrole dans leurs réserves stratégiques après une demande la compagnie pétrolière américaine Citgo, filiale de la compagnie publique vénézuélienne Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).
En effet, suite au passage de l’ouragan, la quasi-intégralité de la production du Golfe du Mexique a été suspendue et au moins 12,5% des capacités américaines de raffinage ont été fermées. Soit une perte de production de 1,3 million de barils par jour de pétrole, et 210 millions de mètres cubes de gaz naturel par jour.
Dimanche, le Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, le seul terminal américain à pouvoir accueillir les super-pétroliers, a dû suspendre ses activités.
