Alors que l’Inde affiche une progression de son PIB supérieure aux attentes, PSA Peugeot-Citroën affirme étudier actuellement l’éventualité d’une implantation dans le pays.

Selon une porte-parole du groupe PSA, joint pa Reuters, le constructeur étudierait « les opportunités offertes par le marché indien et le moyen d’entrer sur ce marché ».
Les thèmes de l’étude concerneraient notamment les modaluités d’entrée de PSA sur le marché indien : seul ou en partenariat.
En tout état de cause, ces propos viennent conforter les affirmations du journal « Financial Express », lequel rapportait lundi que PSA envisageait de s’allier à Caparo India, filiale du groupe britannique Caparo Group.
Néanmoins, selon PSA, aucune discussion n’aurait lieu actuellement avec Caparo Group.
Pour rappel, le segment des voitures de petite taille représente 70% du marché total des voitures de tourisme en Inde et il est actuellement dominé par Maruti Suzuki.
PSA Peugeot-Citroën a déjà indiqué pour sa part qu’il cherchait des opportunités de croissance externe et qu’il réfléchirait à des acquisitions ou à des partenariats. L’objectif étant d’obtenir une croissance via les marchés les plus porteurs.
Le groupe avait déjà formé une coentreprise en Inde dans les années 1990, avec Premier Ltd. en vue d’y construire la 309, mais le partenariat avait tourné court.
PSA dispose depuis de nombreuses années d’un bureau d’achats dans le pays, dans le cadre de sa politique de Global sourcing.
Début 2008, la presse indienne s’était fait l’écho de négociation entre PSA et Hero, partenaire industriel de Honda pour la fabrication de ses motos.
En juin 2009, le quotidien indien ‘Economic Times affirmait pour sa part que le constructeur français envisageait sérieusement de construire une usine à Hyderabad ou à Chennai (ex-Madras).
